This week on THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL HIM & HER PODCAST…
( 0:55 ): Welcome back to TSC HIM & HER Show. #294: On this episode we are joined by Molly Carmel. Molly Carmel, LCSW is the Founder and Director of The Beacon Programs in New York City, an outpatient program that helps people with compulsive overeating, food addiction, and eating disorders find permanent solutions. On today’s episode we discuss diet culture, eating disorders, food addictions, and how we can take personal accountability to help find permanent solutions.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS WITH
( 3:06 ): Lauryn says, “So introduce yourself to our audience. Give us some context about what you’re all about.”
( 4:02 ): Michael asks, “How old were you when that happened?”
( 4:14 ): Michael asks, “Did you understand what happened to your dad?”
( 5:05 ): Lauryn asks, “Did you know what you were doing when you were seven?”
( 7:26 ): Lauryn asks, “When you say you had an eating disorder simultaneously while you were helping people, was it anorexia, was it bulimia, was it orthorexia, or was it something you can’t describe?”
( 8:06 ): Lauryn asks, “When you say bariatric, I think gastric bypass?”
( 9:17 ): Lauryn asks, “What does it feel like when you go in for the surgery that you probably, I would think, is going to fix everything?”
( 14:03 ): Lauryn says, “It sounds like a lot of your journey, too, was self-sabotage.”
( 14:57 ): Lauryn asks, “To walk the audience through your story, after you binged after gastric, what ended up happening?”
( 16:53 ): Michael asks, “And were you expecting to detox from sugar?”
( 20:49 ): Lauryn asks, “What do you think about a lot of women I’ve talked to using Phenylephrine and Adderall to lose weight?”
( 29:50 ): Michael says, “Let’s talk about those people. Say you’re somebody that moderation just doesn’t register, it doesn’t work. So when you think about, let’s say sugar, how do you regulate that?”
( 30:10 ): Lauryn says, “So walk us through a day of your eating.”
( 33:20 ): Lauryn asks, “Couple questions from the quiz? Just like one or two.”
( 41:27 ): Lauryn says, “It sounds like you almost are doing an AA for food, and it sounds like people are fighting you against it because they don’t really think it’s an addiction but it is.”
( 44:28 ): Lauryn asks, “What are some self-care things that you do now?”
( 55:46 ): Lauryn asks, “I’m asking a selfish question; I know someone with borderline personality disorder. And I’m sure there’s a lot of people listening, I didn’t realize that was like the foundation of what you specialized in, can you talk about that a little bit?”
( 1:01:40 ): Lauryn asks, “Narcissistic personality disorder, and this is the new one I just learned about, I’m probably going to flub it – histrionic – what are the differences between those three?”
( 1:05:23 ): Lauryn says, “Before you go, you have to finish telling us what you eat in a day, because Michael interrupted you and you know that I will not forget about it.”
