David is best known for co-founding the Grasshopper Group, a virtual telephone service acquired by the Citrix Systems for $170 Million. On this episode we discuss how to invest as an angle investor, how to raise money and when to raise money for your business, how to start a business, and how to figure out if you are an entrepreneur.



( 5:57 ): Michael asks, How would you describe yourself now? You’re now an entrepreneur, an angel investor. When you go out and you’re giving the boilerplate, how do you describe yourself to people?”

Like I feel like they put all their energy into their business and then the health gets neglected. When did you start to realize that was a problem?”

(34:16): Michael asks, “If you’re talking to a young person, you’re trying to coach them on how to get a business off the ground, and let’s use the framework that they are an entrepreneur you’re talking to, what are the first few things you tell them?

(35:14): Michael asks, “What do you think young people, or any entrepreneur, focus on in the beginning that’s a waste of time?”

(38:12): Lauryn asks, “What do you look for in a deck and what do you look for in someone when you’re investing in them?”

(39:51): Michael asks, “Okay I have a question, and this is maybe a selfish question. When you’re looking at a deck, or are you looking at the business or you looking more at the person, or are you looking at both?”

(40:38): Lauryn asks, “How many times have you been at dinner, trying to chill, drinking a glass of wine, and someone tries to fucking pitch you?”

(41:43): Lauryn asks, “Your partner; how does she play with your business?”

(42:26): Lauryn asks, “If someone is listening to this podcast and wants to pitch you or an angel, what’s the most effective way to do it besides the airport? Is it to email? Is it lik,  what is a way that’s unique that you’ve seen?”

(47:24): Michael says, “So before we jump off this, what are the boxes that you think need to be checked if you are going to bring on capital?”

(48:26): Lauryn asks, “What if an influencer wants to launch product? Are they supposed to use their own money?” 

(54:04): Lauryn says, “Talk a little bit about that before you go, because that’s interesting. You do 5 to 10 minute meetings all day long?”

(54:42): Lauryn asks, “Book, podcast, resource that you can leave our audience with that’s brought you extreme value?”
