This week on THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL HIM & HER PODCAST…
( 0:55 ): Welcome back to TSC HIM & HER Show. #572: Today we’re sitting down with Dr. Robert Whitfield, board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in Explant Surgery and Breast Implant Illness. Known as the “Breast Implant Illness Expert,” due to his exceptional explant skills and holistic and scientific approach to care, Dr. Robert joins us today to talk about all things implants, implant illness, and implant removal. We also discuss Lauryn’s recent explant procedure and why she decided this was the right choice for her. Dr. Robert gets into the details about what causes implant illness, why more and more people are deciding to get their breast implants removed, signs that you may have breast implant illness and he dives into the entire explant procedure and what to expect. He also dives into the root cause behind implant illness: chronic inflammation & gives insight into how chronic inflammation is affecting your everyday life, what the causes could be and more. Lastly he gets into who would be a good candidate for explant surgery, what people should know before going under the knife ( for implants AND explants), and why it’s important to plan for years into the future whenever considering any type of implant surgery.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS WITH
( 7:51 ): Lauryn asks, “Why are so many people getting explants?”
( 9:44 ): Lauryn says, “So, what seems to be happening is that people who got implants at 21 years old or 18 years old like I did, 10 years, 15 years, 18 years whatever down the line, they’re explanting, because it seems like it’s exponentially getting worse.”
( 11:24 ): Lauryn says, “If I look back on my life I remember when I first got them I started to feel more inflamed. Can you explain exactly like from a kindergarten why I was experiencing that inflammation?”
( 12:38 ): Michael asks, “Biofilm around the implant when you take it out?”
( 14:15 ): Lauryn asks, “What are you seeing longer down the road? Like what do I have to look forward to in the next 3 month, or in the next year, or even the next 5 years?”
( 15:50 ): Lauryn asks, “Because there are so many people online that just in general are talking about breast implant illness, what are some symptoms of it that you can list that could be from your implants?”
( 19:20 ): Lauryn asks, “So, when you explant, you done so many explants, what are some things that you’re seeing that are crazy?”
( 22:38 ): Michael asks, “Why do you some people in your opinion get breast implant illness, while others don’t?”
( 24:02 ): Lauryn says, “Talk to us about more stories about more stories of explants.”
( 31:49 ): Lauryn asks, “Why is it so important to remove the capsule?”
( 32:13 ): Lauryn asks, “And the cancer is cancer specifically from breast implants?”
( 32:27 ): Lauryn asks, “If the person did not have the cancer and you left it in, would it be okay?”
( 35:15 ): Lauryn says, “I want to discuss and walk the audience through the procedure. First, tell us what happens the day of, the morning of?”
( 37:20 ): Michael asks, “Are there things you’ll see when someone comes to you in their test where you’re like I can’t operate on you until you do these certain things or just certain things that they may have that prohibits them from having an explant?”
( 48:39 ): Lauryn says, “I think what’s so cool about you is that you’re the first doctor that has not prescribed me antibiotics after. Can you talk about that?”
( 49:30 ): Michael says, “What are some ah-ha moments when the patient comes in and it’s like a light bulb goes off and they realize, ‘Oh, I had this symptom and I had no idea’?”
( 50:52 ): Michael says, “Talking about body odor—why does that happen?”
( 51:54 ): Michael asks, “Are you saying the potential main culprit here is chronic inflammation that basically throws all the other systems of the body off kilter?”
( 52:18 ): Lauryn says, “A lot of women are afraid to get their implants out because of their significant other.”
( 56:26 ): Michael asks, “If you’re a young woman, call if 25, you’re probably going to have to get these re-done two to three times in your lifetime is that right?”
( 58:04 ): Michael asks, “Do you think it gets less scrutiny or there’s less of an emphasis on health because it’s cosmetic whereas say a knee replacement isn’t necessarily cosmetic?”
( 59:15 ): Michael asks, “What are the things you get push back for?”
( 1:03:14 ): Lauryn asks, “How do you deal with sort of guiding people through the aftercare?”
( 1:05:56 ): Michael asks, “For people that are saying, ‘Hey this is not proven that this is what’s causing inflammation,’ or I don’t believe—these people might even be people that actually have these symptoms—but they don’t believe it can be breast implants. I’m sure you deal with that all the time. What would you tell those people?”
( 1:06:45 ): Lauryn says, “I want to talk about what the breast looks like after surgery.”
( 1:10:15 ): Lauryn says, “You don’t do drains.”
( 1:11:58 ): Lauryn asks, “Why does everyone do drains still?”
( 1:18:13 ): Lauryn says, “Before you go, if someone’s listening, and they have an auto-immune because a lot of people have an auto-immune disorder, how many of them do you think that the breast implant is contributing to this?”
( 1:23:08 ): Michael asks, “Why do you think someone like yourself, other physicians, when they discover something new, or when they realize something we thought to be true might not be true or maybe something we were doing is maybe causing harm, why is there so much pushback from the medical community to have these conversations?”
( 1:26:29 ): Lauryn asks, “What are you most excited for me to see in the next three months with my experience?”
( 1:28:07 ): Michael asks, “Is the weight loss the inflammation going away?”
( 1:28:56 ): Lauryn asks, “Do you think that explants are going to go crazy in the next five years?”
