How Did Demi Leigh and Tim Tebow Meet?
After winning the Miss Universe for South Africa, Demi Tebow moved to the United States to fulfill her one-year requirements. While living in New York, she learned about Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine event. It’s a global prom experience created specifically for people with special needs. Because her late half-sister, Franje, was born with a condition known as cerebellar agenesis, this struck a chord with Demi. Incredibly, the Tim Tebow Foundation was hosting Night to Shine in South Africa, too!
Demi reached out to Tim. Then, the former football star and philanthropist contacted Night to Shine organizers in South Africa to formally invite Demi’s sister. Unfortunately, Demi’s sister could not attend due to an illness, but the invitation alone had a big impact on Demi’s family. Back home, there was little support, resources, or community for those affected by special needs.
For a long time, Demi didn’t even know Tim’s last name. In the Him & Her Show, she explains she simply referred to him as the “Night to Shine guy.” However, Demi wanted to help expand the event, so the two began a professional relationship via email. The goal was simply to figure out how their combined efforts could impact more people with special needs.
To move things along, they scheduled a 10-minute call. But instead of a quick check-in, the call lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours. Demi explained that in those conversations, it became clear that she and Tim shared a purpose and a Christian faith. Their compatibility and deep connection were undeniable. Eventually, this led to their romantic relationship. The two married in January 2020 in South Africa.
